The olinguito, a new mammal

olinguito

This carnivorous mammal Bassaricyon neblina is the latest mammal species to be cataloged. Since 35 years a new species of carnivore is not found in the Western Hemisphere.

It lives in the cloud forests of Colombian and Ecuadorian Andes, hence its name. It measures about 35cm, the tail is 10cm over and weighs up to 1kg. This arboreal and nocturnal little animal eats insects, fruit and nectar.

Note: it seems that was already known and what has actually been discovered is that it is a different species of carnivore thna other olinguitos.
